About

The aim of the Worcester Goalkeeper Academy (‘the Academy’) is to develop Goalkeeper performance in a holistic and challenging way. Coaching sessions may not always focus on specific Goalkeeper skills but will be designed to enable opportunities for development of the fundamental skills (following the FA ‘Four-Corner Model’):

Developing these skills into more complex, efficient and effective skills.

To aid this development, goalkeepers are placed in appropriately sized peer groups, not necessarily based on age, but their needs as a goalkeepers. For example if they need help on the basics, then they will be in groups that assist with this development, whereas keepers showing the basics, may be put in groups with more technical, game like sessions. So goalkeepers may be in a mixed group of ages, under the appropriate supervision of appropriately qualified coach/coaches.

All the Academy Coaching Staff have a keen interest in developing Goalkeepers and have experience of working with beginners through to elite keepers. Coaches have achieved level 1 to level 3 FA coaching qualifications, are CRB checked and hold First Aid and Safeguarding Certificates.

The philosophy of the Academy is to enhance performance and develop future potential, ultimately earning a respected reputation from clubs and  associations. Additionally, the Academy sessions can be used as a training ground for the next generation of Goalkeepers and Coaches, under mentor supervision. The Academy’s longer term aims are therefore:

  • To enhancing research in the Coaching of Goalkeepers
  • To be identified as a centre for Goalkeeper research
  • Become a centre of excellence for all Worcestershire Goalkeepers and Goalkeeper Coaches
